Take a Scenic Stroll Across the Liffey Bridge

Often referred to by locals as the Ha’Penny Bridge, the Liffey Bridge provides one of the most romantic walks in the city, as it is illuminated at night. The historic bridge, which was built in 1816, once cost half a penny to cross before additional bridges were built in the city.

Walk Through Dublin Castle Grounds

Dublin Castle is a sight to behold, especially as the sun goes down. You’re free to stroll across the grounds at any time of day, and you can enjoy much atmospheric lighting once the day turns into night.

The historic castle was built in 1204 and served as the seat of the British government’s administration in Ireland until 1922. It is now viewed as a significant Irish landmark, government complex and conference centre.

You also might recognise the 816-year-old castle from various movies and TV series, such as Michael Collins, Becoming Jane, Barry Lydon, and The Medallion. It also has doubled as the Vatican in the hit show The Tudors.

Play Poker at Your Luxury Hotel

While many of Dublin’s best bars and pubs will often call last orders at 11.30 pm or 12 am, you might want to continue the fun into the night. If so, it might be worth returning to the comfort of your luxurious hotel room for a fun game of poker with your friends.

For instance, you could order room service, stock up on some snacks, and aim to showcase your bluffing skills. It is, however, worthwhile brushing up on the poker hands before you place down your cards, or a silly mistake could result in you losing a winning hand.

Book a Spooky Ghost Walking Tour

If you love to feel a chill down your spine and a lump in your throat, you should book a spot on one of the many ghost walking tours in the city. Once the sun goes down, you can stroll across the capital to learn about its dark and mysterious past, and the stories will be told by a knowledgeable, entertaining tour guide. Haunted spots you can expect to visit will likely include Dublin Castle, Bully’s Acre Cemetery, and Kilmainham Gaol. They are not for the faint-hearted.

If you aren’t ready to return home or to your hotel, once a pub calls last orders, you could always grab a bite to eat at Good World on South Great George’s Street, which regularly serves authentic and scrumptious Chinese food.

The popular restaurant is open until 3 am on Fridays and Saturdays, and their dim sum menu is on offer past midnight. It is a superb way to end a fun night.

Enjoy a Slice at DiFontaine’s Pizzeria

Alternatively, you could make your way to DiFontaine’s Pizzeria to grab a slice that is bigger than your face. The New York-inspired pizzeria provides a variety of toppings to choose from to complement your taste, and it is also open until 1 am. It is also rather cheap, as you can buy a slice for as little as €4 or €5.

Listen to a Talented Busker

Once you have finished your drink in one of Dublin’s atmospheric pubs, you can take to the streets to listen to a talented busker. Many superb musicians often perform around Temple Bar and Grafton Street every night of the week. Wander around the tourist quarter, as it is often alive with music in the middle of the night.

Dance the Night Away at Copper Face Jacks

While some pubs and bars will close their doors by midnight, Copper Face Jacks doesn’t open until 11 pm and will not close its doors until 3.30 am or 4.30 am on Fridays and Saturdays. The famous nightclub not only offers state-of-the-art lighting, but it also features cheesy playlists to keep you and your friends dancing into the early hours of the morning.

Wander Down Historic Henrietta Street

If you want to enjoy a late-night stroll with your friends or other half, Henrietta Street could be the perfect choice. It is lined with stunning red brick Georgian mansions that were built during the 1700s and once belonged to the wealthiest families in Ireland.

It serves as a beautiful example of Dublin’s exquisite architecture, so it is worth a wander down in the day or night. Fans of Foyle’s War, Albert Nobbs, or Inspector George Gently might also recognise the street, as it has been used as a period location for various film and TV companies.

Conclusion

Your night doesn’t need to come to an end once the pubs close their doors in Dublin. There are many clubs, restaurants, and public grounds that will keep their doors and gates open to both locals and tourists. So, grab a pizza slice, dine at a Chinese restaurant or enjoy a stroll across Liffey Bridge, through the Dublin Castle grounds or down Henrietta Street. It is the perfect way to end a perfect day in the Irish capital.
