The Wider than Pictures concert series is set to return for a 6th consecutive year, running from the 25th to the 30th of August at the National Museum of Ireland, Collins Barracks. Its historical courtyard offers a beautiful opportunity to enjoy the thrills of live music with a drink in hand. From rock to pop to jazz, the lineup this year offers something for every type of music fan.
Kicking off on Tuesday August 25th and Wednesday 26th, the concert series will be opened by Amyl and The Sniffers, the ARIA award-winning Australian rock band that have proven themselves to be fun, powerful and pure rock and roll.
Amyl (a.k.a Amy Taylor) is a force of nature, a frontwoman who evokes the spirit and activism of icons such as Debbie Harry, Iggy Pop and Patti Smith while giving the band an outlet for their bubblegum lyrics.
Having played Primavera, Coachella and Glastonbury and supported acts like Jane’s Addiction, Smashing Pumpkins and Foo Fighters across the United States and Europe, this band are a well honed machine, offering adrenaline-fuelled headbanging rock that’s sure to excite even the staunchest of rock fans.
Special guests Mannequin Pussy are a treat, an all female four piece punk/indie outfit whose latest album I Got Heaven was included in many top tens of 2024 while opening act (Tallaght born, London based) Spider (who graced the front cover of our sister mag The Goo in January 2025) offers a similarly thrilling mix punk and pop which compliments the headline act beautifully.
Thursday’s gig will see a huge change of pace, as American R&B/indie singer Faye Webster takes to the stage. While her music may not rip the hats off the fans in the courtyard, her soft and groovy lyrics and stage presence make her gigs equally compelling.
The Atlanta singer-songwriter has quietly become one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary indie music, blending country, folk, R&B and indie rock into a sound that feels both intimate and genre-defying.
Since breaking through with Atlanta Millionaires Club and its acclaimed follow-up I Know I’m Funny haha, Webster has built a devoted global audience drawn to her understated vocals, dry wit and emotionally precise songwriting.
London-based guest Amie Blu offers a similar experience, while local heroes SPRINTS are sure to rip it up from the off with their hydro charged punk pop nuggets thrilling delivered by the beguiling Karla Chubb.
Friday the 28th welcomes yet another change in musical style, as British Jazz artist Berloiz takes to the stage. Having amassed over one million monthly listeners, Berloiz has established himself as one of the leaders in the house jazz genre.
His modern jazz fusion is respectful to its rich history while still being enticing to a younger, contemporary crowd. Guest Sofia Kourtesis, brings a fun latin twist with her techno/house fusion.
And for the main event on Saturday, Dublin will be delighted to welcome Canadian indie legend Mac DeMarco.
With hits like Chamber of Reflection and My Kind of Woman, DeMarco’s blissful-but-catchy indie style has established him as one of the most popular musicians in the world.
With the two aforementioned songs reaching over a billion streams on Spotify. DeMarco is one of a kind so this has the potential to be the gig of the Summer.
Finally, on Sunday, Super Furry Animals headline with Baxter Drury and Really Good Time promising a glorious close to a stacked lineup for the series. A true bohemian, Baxter’s unique blend of indie and punk provides something different compared to traditional artists of his genre. He’s an odd, yet exceptional performer on stage, employing fun and improvised dance moves to compliment his alternative music.
Really Good Time open proceedings and will be in the mood to blow the courtyard to pieces. Their debut album Affirmations is a killer, all big riffs and superb production. Do not miss!
