Patience is a virtue, especially for the city’s cafe owners, staff and restaurateurs who have been busy navigating the treacherous terrain that has been at the heart of Dublin’s turbulent dining scene over the past few years.

Luckily patience is a quality that Colin Harmon and the team at 3fe have in abundance. Having waited for absolute aeons to re-open 3fe Gertrude, they finally got to open the doors of their much loved cafe on Pearse Street in Dublin last weekend. And at this early stage, all the indications are that the wait has been more than worth while.

The team has undertaken a nice new makeover of the interior, while also devising a brand new Brunch Menu to mark their long awaited reopening.  We’re particularly looking forward to tucking in to a hearty looking Short Rib Hash, featuring braised Short Rib of Beef with Diced Potatoes, Green Beans and Saute Onions, served with Poached Eggs and Chimichurri sauce.

The menu also offers plenty to pique the interest of those who like their brunch lighter, with dishes including their delicious signature Granola and Yoghurt, Eggs on Toast and Fennel and Blood Orange Salad.

There’s also lots of scope for charging things up, via optional add-ons such as Chargrilled Broccolli and Toasted Almonds, or sausages, bacon and pudding from Whole Hogg. An extensive selection of tasty pastries including croissants, cinnamon rolls, flapjacks and brownies is also available.

Those looking to extend their dining experience here to regular week days will have to rely on that old school virtue of patience a little longer. For the moment the cafe will be open from 11am-4pm on Friday – Sunday, making tables very limited in the short term, so booking is essential.

In the meantime, for those all important bookings and to check out the details of their new menu, visit Gertrude.ie.  Keep an eye on their socials for updates.
