Early bird tickets are now on sale for Irish National Opera and Bord Gáis Energy Theatre’s concert performance of La bohème which will be streamed live at 7:30pm on Saturday 13 March.

An unforgettable story of youth, love and bohemian life in Paris, this livestream concert performance will star Irish and international soprano Celine Byrne as Mimì and Lithuanian tenor Merūnas Vitulskis as Rodolfo and is conducted by Sergio Alapont. This spectacular event will also feature the 62- piece Irish National Opera Orchestra, as well as the Irish National Opera Chorus and a high-spirited children’s choir to add to the magic of the occasion.

Dramatic, touching and highly evocative, experience Puccini’s sublime music live from the iconic  Bord Gáis Energy Theatre’s stage, re-creating a thrilling and unforgettable operatic experience from the comfort of your home.

Celine Byrne says “I’m so looking forward to performing the role of Mimì in La bohème with Irish National Opera. It is a dream role for me having made my debut in 2010 with this role in the Scottish Opera production. Since then I have performed it many times and due to the pandemic it was the last role I performed on stage to a live audience in America last January. I absolutely cannot wait to get performing again and to have that wonderful feeling of working with others and the adrenaline I get from it. I am so grateful to the Irish National Opera for this opportunity.”

INO’s Artistic Director Fergus Sheil says “La bohème is a story of youth, idealism, art, poetry and love in the romantic setting of 1830s Paris. The characters are intoxicated with life and full of optimism. Their carefree existence, however, eventually runs out of road. Love turns to suspicion; passion gives way to jealousy and poverty leads to illness. Each character tries in vain to hold on to a dream that vanishes. Puccini’s lush orchestration carries the soaring operatic voices of sopranos Celine Byrne and Anna Devin as we ride the roller coaster of emotions with Mimì, Musetta and the rest of Irish National Opera’s outstanding cast.”

This unique event, streamed live from the Bord Gáis Energy Theatre stage, will see the theatre’s curtain raised for the first time since March 2020, Stephen Faloon, General Manager says: “We are absolutely thrilled to once again partner with Irish National Opera to bring this wonderful concert performance of La bohème to our stage. It’s been almost one year since we sadly had to close our doors, and it is our wish that this event will bring much needed escapism and enjoyment to audiences who will now have the opportunity to experience the magic of a live Bord Gáis Energy Theatre performance at home.

Do not miss this once in a lifetime special concert performance of La bohème.

La bohème will be sung in Italian with English subtitles. The concert stream can be viewed more than once and will be available on demand until Saturday 20 March.
