Dublin’s engagement ring scene in 2025 reflects a mix of practicality and modern romance.
According to the Bespoke Diamonds Wrapped 2025 report, Dublin buyers spent an average of €3,825 on engagement rings this year, placing the county 15th nationally.
While many still associate the capital with higher spending, the data suggests that Dublin couples are prioritising design, craftsmanship and proportion over sheer size. The average total carat weight of 1.82ct shows a deliberate balance between elegance and wearability.
Hints Over Surprises
Dublin also stands out for how proposals unfold. The city recorded the highest use of hints in Ireland, with 36% of engagements guided this way.
Meanwhile, 43% of couples chose their ring together, and 21% opted for a full surprise proposal, one of the lowest surprise rates in the country.
“Dublin couples are moving toward collaboration,” says Martin Commins, founder of Bespoke Diamonds. “They want the moment to feel right, but they also want the ring to be something that lasts a lifetime. It’s a considered kind of romance.”

Those who still go it alone tend to spend more generously, around 20% higher on average, highlighting how emotion and intent continue to drive spending decisions.
Lab-Grown Diamonds Dominate
Another defining feature of Dublin’s market is its clear preference for lab-grown diamonds, which now account for 65% of all engagement ring purchases.

Buyers are drawn by the ability to achieve greater carat weight and quality at the same budget, while maintaining the same optical and chemical characteristics as mined stones.
Natural diamonds, while still popular, now make up 35% of Dublin sales, with most of those buyers choosing traditional cuts or sentimental heirloom-style settings.
Timeless Taste and Modern Values
18k yellow gold remains Dublin’s preferred metal, reflecting a shift toward warmer tones and vintage-inspired designs that feel both contemporary and timeless.
Oval and round cuts are the clear favourites, continuing their dominance thanks to their flattering proportions and versatility across settings.
Changing Habits, Not Sentiment
Bespoke Diamonds’ Dublin data paints a clear picture: couples are taking a more collaborative approach without losing the emotional heart of the proposal.
They’re focused on rings that feel personal and enduring, not just impressive.

Even as lab-grown diamonds lead and surprise proposals decline, the meaning behind the moment remains unchanged, it’s simply expressed in a more thoughtful way.
