Monsoon is a much loved neighbourhood Indian restaurant in Stillorgan for over 20 years. We dropped in on the team which elevates the dining experience with exceptional hospitality and culinary invention.

“Our business is all about passion, sourcing the freshest and best of ingredients. We both come from traditional farming families. I joined here as a part-time staff when I was studying. I love the place and Stillorgan has a lovely community.  When the opportunity arose to take it over I saved some money and partnered with Alok. We took it over late 2019, just in time for the pandemic. as the first time lockdown happened, we focused all of your energy on improving takeaway and delivery service and kept on going. We survived through it.

I had worked here for ten years so knew exactly how it worked. It just needed a bit of TLC. We looked at the wine list, as well, and sampled hundreds off wines to ensure a perfect selection to match our food.

Indian food is always evolving, customers are open to exploring new spices and flavours. Some people like the classic dishes also, so we try to strike a balance between traditional and exploration. We do specials which are hard to get anywhere else such as “Idili” steamed dumplings served with special zingy lentil soup. We are always experimenting to see what the market likes but balancing that with something traditional. We keep an eye on international restaurants to see what they are coming up with and take inspiration from.

Our bread and butter is takeaway but it is always lovely to have people here who can come in and sit and chat for nights out or family occasions.”
