Mabe Fratti and her group put on one of the most incredible performances I had the honour of witnessing in 2023. Those frenzied pioneers at Foggy Notions have once again facilitated an evening for the Guatemalan cello wǔnderkind to deliver an absolutely spellbinding meditation, echoing her work with Belafonte Sensacional and Claire Rousay, and the experie-metal supergroup she spearheads, Amor Muere. At times recalling the heady peaks post-rock overlords Godspeed You! Black Emperor, which is no easy mission for a trio, the performance made me a lifelong fan. I hope to see ye at this one.
