Norwegian artist Kyrre Mogster brings Substance to Shadows to Dublin, presenting a striking series of paintings exploring hedonism, human folly and the darker side of certainty.
Created using ink and oil stick on canvas, the works are packed with vivid colour and unsettling imagery, with figures gorging, gathering and unravelling among recurring motifs of vessels, limbs, crowds and empty thrones.
Inspired by the writings of American sociologist Alvin Gouldner, in a series addressing the dangers of failing to confront and interrogate our ideological biases, Mogster explores what happens when ideas become rigid and beliefs go unquestioned.
Rather than offering easy answers, Substance to Shadows invites viewers to sit with contradiction, doubt and the uncomfortable spaces between conviction and folly.
The exhibition runs at Tøn Gallery from September 10th to September 30th.
