Whilst reading the ‘Makeshift’ issue of the tremendous Sociotype Journal (see Magnified), we happened upon the wonderful work of mender Celia Pym.

Armed with an old sweater from her Uncle Roland and a library copy of Thérèse de Dillmonts Encyclopedia of Needlework (1886), Pym set about celebrating her repair work through its visibility.

“Rather than seek to eradicate imperfection, she sees her work as an effort to ‘hold the damage in place’ and as evidence of the body’s habits, mishaps, and inevitable wear and tear.”
