This December, Dublin’s ceramics community is rallying together with an impressive charity raffle. Throwing Shapes, the Blackpitts’ ceramics studio known for its fast-growing creative community, has gathered exceptional work from leading Irish makers including Sara Flynn, Cormac Boydell, Adam Frew, Karen Morgan, and Mike Byrne – all in support of Doras Ireland, a nonprofit providing vital assistance to migrants and refugees at a time of growing pressure on communities across the country.
The raffle will take place at Throwing Shapes’ biggest Christmas Market yet on Saturday 13 December, with more than 40 ceramics vendors filling the studio. Local favourites Fable Bakery, Matcha Mafia, and Cornershop will also join the festivities, making the market a lively destination for those seeking handmade gifts, festive treats, and a chance to support independent makers.
The raffle brings together an extraordinary list of contributors, with artists donating one-of-a-kind pieces, collectible vessels, and sculptural work. In total, more than 30 makers are involved, including Adele Stanley, An Gee Chan, Antonio Lopez, Bridget Timoney, Cathy O’Connor, Dylan Jordan, Eamon Lynch, Elaine Fallon, Judy Fisher, Julia Fraia, Katharina Treml, Lily Walkington, Lucy Hughes, Lydia Smith, Mandy Williams, Marta Ozog, Stories by Ola, Simon Kidd, Sonja Guenther, Stephen Richardson, Stephen Tierney, Susanne Liiri, Vinh Truong, and Throwing Shapes’ own Siofra Murdock.
All funds raised will go directly to Doras, an independent organisation that supports people from migrant and refugee backgrounds through advocacy, direct services, and community-building. Their work includes assisting people in the international protection system, supporting victims of trafficking, and campaigning for fairer, more compassionate policies.
As people increasingly look to invest their money into local makers and small businesses during the Christmas season, this market and raffle is an opportunity to engage with the city’s creative community and contribute to Doras’ essential work.
