Despite coming up with the goods by producing this year’s Horehound LP, The Dead Weather still have to shake off the annoying side-project tag. Regardless of this handicap, White, Mosshart & Co continue to form by releasing one of the best cuts from the album. Opening with the line “I look like a woman but I cut like a buffalo”, the tune is more immediate and destined for single release than most Dead Weather material. While the album rarely strays from rock n roll territory, ‘I Cut Like A Buffalo’ brandishes an almost reggae/ska infused beat, tripping its way into your memory. Mosshart and White’s vocals are layered together and sport that inexplicable don’t give a fuck attitude they do so well. On a side note, make sure to check out the Circus Freak/Twin Peaks-inspired video for a cameo by Irish legend BP Fallon.
