Girls Aloud – Untouchable

The new Girls Aloud video is, quite literally, a load of balls. Gone are the days of 5 girls dancing at a tea party table in Elizabethan get-ups, as Untouchable continues on the Girls’ trend of slick, vaguely apocalyptic promo shots seemingly aimed at Americans (who, in case you hadn’t noticed, prefer space-themed action videos to skimpily-dressed size 4 girls), and sci-fi fans. Untouchable is the third, and final single to be taken from their most recent collection, Out Of Control, and is the most accurate approximation of the album’s content: pretty New Order. Untouchable even has a Peter Hook hook that Peter Hook hasn’t hooked since the heyday of the Hacienda. Throw in a now characteristic melancholia from the Girls vocal performances (cheer up ladies, nobody’s sick of you yet) and you’ve got another frustratingly inescapable synthpop track to stick in your ears for the next few weeks. Thank Walsh they’re probably hitting a hiatus after the current tour – our brains have turned into GA jukeboxes.
