A new partnership has been taking centre stage at Mermaid Arts Centre as the popular Bray performance space joins forces with Arklow chef and documentary maker Tadgh Byrne to open Críoch Café.

Byrne’s track record offers an idea of what audiences can look forward to when the bill of fare is extended to a fuller menu offering and longer opening hours in September.

Having founded Críoch Catering back in 2019, in a bid to “make the world a better place through healthy, sustainable and ethical food and memorable experiences”, the talented Wicklow man specialises in fresh, locally sourced food, paired with warm and friendly customer service.

Speaking about the new café, he says, “Our vision is for Mermaid to become a food hub as well as an arts hub and we are looking forward to showcasing local produce”.

And for those wondering about the name, apparently the word “Críoch” originates from Middle Irish and means territory or land, reflecting his deep connection to Co. Wicklow and sustainable produce.

Críoch is currently serving coffee and light bites over the summer, between the hours of 8am and 3pm, Mon – Fri throughout July and August, with a theatre bar service available on performance evenings.
