Our cover duo from January, Shelley McNamara and Yvonne Farrell from Grafton Architects, have cut the ribbon on the 16th Venice Architecture Biennale. Curating under the theme ‘Freespace’ it features the crème de la crème with each international pavilion presenting work in sympathy to the theme.
Responses include Mind-Building (Finland), Island (UK), Unbuilding Walls (Germany), Building a Future Countryside (China) and No More Free Space (Singapore).
Our own representation with Free Market consists of six architects, designers and educators forming a collective.
Laurence Lord (AP+E), Orla Murphy (Custom), Jeffrey Bolhuis (AP+E), Jo Anne Butler (Culturstruction), Tara Kennedy (Culturstruction) and Miriam Delaney (DIT) represent with their consideration of open spaces in market towns around Ireland.
Meanwhile, artist, Eva Rotschild and curator, Mary Cremin have been selected to represent Ireland at the 58th Art Biennale in Venice in 2019.
The Venice Architecture Biennale continues until 25 November.
