Starry Eyed

After being named Sound of 2010, the much-touted singer Ellie Goulding may indeed be starry-eyed herself. With debut album Lights on its way, ‘Starry Eyed’ is Goulding’s first major release since bursting into the mainstream after being the blogger’s favourite. Recently performed at the unveiling of the Brits, for much of the record-buying public this will be their first taster of Goulding’s music and their chance to see what the fuss is all about.  Showing off a glammed up new image befitting a pop princess and wearing a dress Little Boots would have discarded, the just released official video is as suitably star-adorned as the lyrics. While the vocals can sometimes be pedestrian, the sweetness and charm makes it all forgivable and even detractors can’t deny the freshness of her sound. Arguably inferior to the more sophisticated ‘Under The Sheets’, the new single is nonetheless a fitting intro for newcomers and a justification for the praise currently being lavished on her.
