While the cover of last month’s Klavierwerke EP featured a blurred photo of the artist’s profile, this single sees London electronic maverick James Blake baring his soul, somewhat.

Shedding the chopped up vocal samples of his previous releases, Blake’s builds on Klavierwerke EP’s sparse diet of piano and his own singing on this cover of the Feist/Chilly Gonzalez tune.

The track shifts from a mournfully sung verse into chorus fully of hazy of delay taps and window-rattling bass frequencies that displays Blake’s signature use of negative space and tension – its the notes that he doesn’t play here that make this interpretation particularly sweet. Oh, and the boy can really sing too.

This is the first single from his forthcoming full length debut (due early next year) shows Blake building on the promise of this years much-hyped EPs. The Martin de Thurah directed video is pretty spooky too.
