Deerhoof – Vs. Evil

Crisp and brutal, Deerhoof’s umpteenth album works with pretty much their existing template: a scattershot collection of cartoonish colouring and post-rock shapeshifting, presented in 2 to 3 minute slices of joy. Inspired moments include The Merry Barrack’s dial-up-modem-in-a-paper-shredder guitar solo, the classic rock epiphany that ends Secret Mobilization and the undeniably charming Super Duper Rescue Heads! in which Satomi Matsuzaki’s simpering vocals can’t help but make your face grow a grin.
