Somadrone

Wellpark Avenue

[Self-Released]

Somadrone’s sixth long-player follows in the well-worn tradition of being named after the place it was recorded: in this case, the Drumcondra cul de sac Neil O’Connor calls home.

One assumes O’Connor has understanding neighbours – he has traded in studiously programmed synthetic drums for thunderous, krauty real ones.

Generally there’s a greater emphasis is on oomph throughout (with sounds echoing around noticeably real spaces) but his beautifully smothered cover of For Emily, Wherever I May Find Her, stands out for both its sweetness and its trippiness.
