The Complex staff pick THUMPER is headlining the long-awaited return of The Depot Sessions on Friday June 6th. A compelling new band, DOSE is playing support with a bonus after-party act yet to be announced. Thumper and Dose have some exciting brand new music featuring at the third edition of The Depot Sessions which is sure to make this an unmissable gig for your music calendar.
The Depot Sessions @ The Complex are live music nights featuring some of Ireland’s most exciting bands, theatrically staged in the versatile setting of The Depot, The Complex’s large warehouse performance space.
The Complex has the L-Acoustics sound system, one of the best in Dublin today. It fills the room and provides crystal clear sound. This is complemented by a stunning light show that will provide a fully immersive, in-the-round show.
THUMPER:
In the last 20 months Dublin psych-pop six piece THUMPER have gone from playing small hometown shows to touring Europe extensively, selling out headline shows, opening for Kasabian on their Irish tour, and hitting major festivals such as Mad Cool (Madrid), Reading & Leeds (UK), Electric Picnic (IE) and more.
Armed with two drummers and four guitarists, THUMPER’s explosive wall of sound has carved out a unique space in Dublin’s thriving music scene, drawing comparisons to Fontaines DC and The Murder Capital. Their debut album Delusions of Grandeur is a bold statement of intent, fusing psych-drenched distortion with sugary melodies and infectious hooks. Released to critical acclaim, the album earned a nomination for Irish Album of the Year at the 2023 Choice Prize, placing them alongside some of Ireland’s most acclaimed acts. That same year, THUMPER made waves on the ESNS Radio Charts and received widespread airplay from BBC 6 Music, BBC Radio 1, KEXP, Kink, Kerrang, and Radio X. Their high-energy presence has also translated to TV, with standout performances on The Tommy Tiernan Show and Other Voices.
By the end of 2023 THUMPER sold out Dublin’s hallowed Button Factory venue, leading them into 2024 where they began work on their hotly anticipated sophomore LP.
DOSE:
Dose is the meeting point of four distinct musical forces, each with their own style and pedigree. Fronted by Lizzie Fitzpatrick (formerly of Bitch Falcon) on vocals and guitar, the band also features bassist Lauren Heron (Merpire), synth player Aoife Spratt, and drummer Nicki Meehan. Together, they create a sound that’s dreamy but grounded, combining elements of shoegaze, post-punk, grunge, synth-pop, and dream pop into something that feels both nostalgic and entirely new. Their influences are worn proudly—think DIIV, Cocteau Twins, Beach House, Slowdive—but the result is unmistakably their own.
Their debut single Cuckoo landed in September 2024 and quickly caught attention. It was named Track of the Week on RTÉ 2FM’s The Alternative and was described by The GOO as “a fuzzy pitch-shifting cross between shoegaze, coldwave with some post-punk thrown in. Sung by The Roches and mixed by Eno.” It was a striking first step, setting the tone for a band with a clear vision and a sound that resists easy categorisation.
On February 14th, they followed up with their second track, which Nialler9 called “a slice of dream-pop-shoegaze”, highlighting Dose’s ability to blend softness and sharp edges in equal measure. Each release so far has deepened their sonic identity and hinted at a band unafraid to explore mood and melody with ambition.
Their third single After This arrived on April 25th. Meanwhile, the band has been announced as support for the legendary Throwing Muses on their Irish tour this May, a fitting match for Dose’s moody, layered soundscapes.
With three captivating singles and a growing reputation for powerful live shows, Dose are quietly building momentum.
The Depot Sessions take place on Friday, 6 June, Doors 8 pm at The Depot @ The Complex, 12 Mary’s Abbey, Smithfield, Dublin 7, D07 XR70
