The New York Times called them “The greatest band in the world” and we’d be churlish to disagree. The Necks are an improvisational three-piece from Australia who channel free jazz, post-rock and Charlemagne Palestine into a trance-like state of musical bliss. It’s often dark, often heavy, but the organic nature of their playing keeps it from ever being overwhelmingly dour or dreary. You can feel the veins in their constructions, feel the blood pulsing. They look like they’re playing jazz but it sure doesn’t sound like it…
