Flying The Flag: Ronan Gallagher

Posted March 15, 2019 in Fashion

Whether capturing Traveller kids for a Stella McCartney campaign or candidly shooting Italian signore in Roman cafes, Ronan Gallagher’s subjects are refreshingly free of artifice – not even his editorials feel staged.

The London-based, Irish-born photographer first brewed up interest for his documentary work, the latter centred on “looking for the beauty in subjects that we usually walk past.” He later funneled this approach into fashion film, clocking up top-tier clients such as Net-A-Porter, Coach and the Gentlewoman.

There’s no question that Gallagher’s emphasis on people and, by extension, personality gives him a revitalising take on fashion photography – few can comfortably chronicle a Mozambique education programme and Gucci Cruise, imbuing both projects with thought provocation.

Having just shot Stacey Wall’s AW19 campaign (whose intricate pieces formed our main fashion feature in February), the sheer eclecticism of Gallagher is only set to continue in 2019.
