Decorating a wedding table may seem like it’s intimidating and something that isn’t for the mere mortal. However, if you use these tips to guide you, you should find the process a lot easier.

  1. Have A Crystal Clear Vision

One of the very first things you need to do when you are looking to put together your wedding table is to come up with a vision for it. You need to have a crystal clear vision for your table in mind. You want to know what the end goal is to effectively design something around it. This is true whether you’re opting for a modern or even a coastal look. You want everything to seamlessly go together to create a put-together look from your stationery to your flowers and other decors.

Once you’ve come up with the vision for your wedding, you’re going to want to utilise it in your wedding table settings. This includes the theme and the colour. If you haven’t done so yet, it’s time to get together with your partner and try to figure out the overall vibe and mood you want to capture with your wedding. Create a mood board that you can use whenever planning the details of your wedding. This will go a long way to ensure that every decision is aligned with your shared vision for the wedding.

  1. Use Layers

One of the top things you can do to improve the aesthetics of your reception tables is by using layers. Layering is a great way to put together a beautiful tablescape. You can utilise a mix of different textures to create a table setting with detail and depth. Without using layering, you’ll find that your tables will tend to look much flatter and more one-dimensional.

You want to think about your table as if it was a blank canvas. You can use different techniques to try to build out your table with varying layers of different materials. For instance, you can use linen napkins with table runners and menu cards. All of these things can be seen as layers for your wood table that can put together a cohesive look.

You always want to go back to your vision board when doing this. That way, you can utilise different details to bring your vision to life. For instance, you can use coconuts or clam shells if you are going for a more coastal theme. Whereas, if you are looking for something Amalfi-inspired, you could always add some fresh limes and lemons. Try to be creative with this. Think outside of the box. Don’t limit yourself to a basic table setting decor and you’ll be able to achieve the look that truly brings out the best in your wedding.

  1. Mess With Heights

Another thing you want to do is to try to mess around with different heights. This is a good way to make the wedding room feel much fuller and less empty. You can play with the heights of different things from your table arrangements to your centrepieces, and more. You want to try to incorporate varying levels to enhance the overall look of the room and to have things stand out in wedding photographs.

  1. Be Practical

Not only do you want to focus on styling details, but you also want to be more practical. Try to keep things practical because you want everything to work well for all of your guests. There are certain things that you want to keep in mind when it comes to practical design. These include:

– Table Width

You’ll want to ensure there is enough room for all of your guests. If you are going for a share-style menu, you’ll want to get tables that are more than 1m wide. This gives everyone more room.

– Placement Of Decor

You also want to ensure that you are giving enough space between your table centrepieces and the food. This is especially true if you are opting for a feasting menu. If you do need to create more space, it might be better to spread out your centrepieces in clusters instead of spreading them down the entire length of the table. You could also go for hanging pieces rather than table arrangements.

– Height

You need to ensure that you are choosing centrepieces that aren’t too tall. You don’t want the centrepieces blocking everyone’s vision at the table. No one wants their guests to stand up to see one another.

– Essential Items

There are a lot of people that make the critical mistake of forgetting essential items like napkins, dessert spoons, and entree cutlery. Ensure that you have an essential checklist that you can use to guarantee that you have everything you need.

  1. Don’t Overcomplicate Things

The last thing you want to do is complicate things too much. The truth is, this should be a joyous time for you and your partner. If you get overwhelmed, take a step back. Try to get some statement pieces like decorative glassware or gold cutlery. These things can help you keep the setting simple while still looking great. Don’t feel the need to masterfully piece together all kinds of different elements. Keeping things simple with statement pieces can cut down the stress considerably.
