Wines With a Story To Tell at Amy Austin

Posted March 26, 2022 in Food & Drink Features

A bar for wine lovers, dog lovers and spontaneous walk ins, Amy Austin occupies a compact space on Drury Street that belies its big ambitions to become the go-to destination of choice for Dublin’s oenophiles.

The wine menu at the bijou bar was recently overhauled by Sommelier Morgan VanderKamer in a process that involved focusing on “small producers by the bottle with a story to tell”.

The award-winning sommelier tells us that her top picks from the new selection include The Loxarel ‘lxv’ aged in amphora from Spain, the Heidi Schrock Blaufrankisch/St. Laurent from Austria and Iuli ‘Umberta’ Barbera, all of which she says are “intriguing wines, growing in popularity amongst adventurous palates and a true pleasure to drink alone or alongside a creative plate of food.”

A glance at the new food menu reveals some lovely examples of the kind of creativity VanderKamer is talking about, with an array of nicely presented plates such as Seared Scallops with cauliflower, hummus and florets, Black Cod Fritters with lime leaf dip, and a very popular Roast Bone Marrow offering that comes served with chilli oil, chimichurri, hazelnuts and sourdough.
