The Dogfather at Rascals – Just When We Thought We Were Out, They Pull Us Back In!

Posted 4 weeks ago in Food & Drink Features

With forty days of Lenten fasting and self sacrafice on the horizon, Rascals are making Dublin diners an offer they can’t refuse. The Inchicore brewery’s Pizza of The Month for March, sees them firing up The Dogfather – a curious Brazilian inspired combo that pulls off the incredible feat of turning a hotdog into a pizza.

You read that right. Explaining the thinking behind this month’s special, Rascals head chef Felipe Santos Souza, who hails from the city of São Paulo says, “In Brazil, there’s a unique hot dog style called “Cachorro-Quente Brasileiro”, which often includes a variety of unexpected toppings, one of which can be purê de batata, aka mashed potatoes.”

He adds that, “Brazilian hot dogs are known for being fully loaded with all sorts of ingredients such as peas, Parmesan cheese, potato sticks (batata palha), quail eggs, and condiments such as mayonnaise, ketchup, and mustard. The exact toppings vary by region, but the mashed potato topping is especially popular in my home city of São Paulo. The result is a hot dog that’s creamy, crunchy, and packed with flavour. So I decided to turn it into a pizza.”

Featuring toppings including tomato sauce, mozzarella, Frankfurter, mashed potato, mustard, ketchup, and chipsticks, the innovative São Paulo native tells us that this Brazilian beauty has to be tasted to be believed, and we believe him.

Lent? Forget about it… Just when we thought we were out, they pull us back in!

Rascals Brewing Co (pizza restaurant, venue, and brewery) is open Mon-Fri from 4pm, Sat & Sun from 1pm.
