There are some advantages to being the resident barfly of a Dublin based magazine.  No shortage of subjects and an engaged audience for starters, and of course, there’s always the occasional opportunity to sample some interesting new arrivals on the city’s drinks scene, even if they aren’t always to your taste.

We’ll confess that we were decidedly green around the gills when we learned that our correspondent recently had an opportunity to taste a drop of Midleton’s 2019 Very Rare Vintage.

The new expression made its illustrious debut last month alongside a flight of vintages dating back over three decades.

Blended from pot still and grain whiskeys aged between 13 and 34 years old, the impressive distillation is a tribute to the work of former Master Distiller Barry Crockett and his successor Brian Nation.

Balm for the soul of barflies everywhere.
