Airfield Estate are turning up the heat on the annual Airfield Festival of Food, which takes place at the award-winning urban food and farm destination in Dublin on Saturday September 8th and Sunday September 9th. The free festival, now in its fourth year, promises more to see, do and eat than ever before.

The festival has grown from a modest 3,000 attendees at the inaugural event, to over 15,000 guests expected to spend the weekend on the farm this year. Entry to The Airfield Estate Festival of Food is free to all and can be enjoyed by families and friends alike, with gates open at 9.30am each day.

This year, along with all the family favourites from egg collecting to cow milking, lawn games to action adventure trails across 38 acres, festival-goers will experience an expanded Food Village with over 50 local producers. Take in the Mindful and Nature Area with Mindful Beauty from Sligo, offering yoga sessions for adults & kids.

 

There’ll be mindful workshops and art installations to feed the soul and enjoy a full programme of cooking events at the Demo Kitchen. Tastings and talks at the Artisan Food Village (including Simons Fish, Corleggy Cheese, Overends Kitchen and Cloonagh Smokin Soul) and Airfield’s own harvested food. The SuperValu Food Academy will also be bringing some of their local vendors including Mama Nagis, Janet’s Country Fayre, Lainey’s Handmade Food, Wild About and Jo’s Absolute Nutrition!

Why not bring your own creations and enter some of the “Best in Show” competitions for community brown bread and seasonal jams. Celebrity Chef Shane Smith will be judging your entries and announcing the daily the winners

Bands and performers will entertain throughout the Festival at the Music Stage, while visitors sip and sup the hot drinks supplied by coffee roasting demos by McCabes Roast House, Off the Cuffee Bitters and King of Kefier.

A dedicated Gardening Zone will feature demos and talks from the window box growers to the meadow mowers.  This year they are looking for the hottest chilli and encouraging people to bring their homegrown efforts along, with the hope of being crowned “The Chilli King or Queen”.

For those looking to entertain and educate their families the EPA Sustainable Systems area, which will promote Zero Waste, festival composting, Backwoods cooking and food foraging from Adventure.ie plus natural beauty and cosmetics from Mindful Beauty, Sligo interspersed with fun family friendly games.
