At the end pf last year start-up academy Food Works marked its first decade supporting fledgling Irish entrepreneurs with the launch of a special podcast series entitled 10 at 10. Each episode features interviews with founders of leading Irish food and drink companies, all of whom participated in the Food Works programme in its first ten years.

The series sees host Darina Mulligan glean advice and stories from contributors including Aisling Cullen of Thanks Plants and Dave Mulligan of Craft Cocktails, as they reflect on their start-up journeys, and share some of the key lessons they learned in developing their respective businesses.

The series also includes inputs from business advisors and mentors such as Jacquie Marsh, who offers practical tips and advice for those setting out on new food initiatives, with some great insights on how to build a successful food or drink brand.

The final episode features an engaging interview with Beth Ann Smith and Ken Madden of The Lismore Food Company, who were amongst the very first graduates of the inaugural Food Works programme. They trace their voyage from baking homemade biscuits to building a very successful food brand, whilst experiencing lots of ‘learning cliffs’ on the way.

Great listening, and not just for those thinking about starting a food business.
