The Children

Now that everyone in the country has seen The Great Gatsby, it’s time for The Gate to make way for some fresh productions. Launching their Love and Courage season is Lucy Kirkwood’s The Children, a cautionary disaster drama built around three retired nuclear scientists. Married couple Hazel (Marie Mullen) and Robin (Seán McGinley) live in isolation until an old friend Rose (Ger Ryan) turns up to sow doubt and distrust. Exploring ageing and personal responsibility, The Children, which will be directed by Oonagh Murphy, also meditates on the catastrophic results of human meddling in the natural world. A noteworthy footnote is Mullen and McGinley also are real-life partners who will appear on stage together for the first time in 27 years.
