Kate Hamill’s re-telling of the iconic Jane Austen novel Emma plays at the Abbey Theatre this winter. Directed by Claire O’Reilly, with Toni O’Rourke as the titular Emma, the production seeks to “rip the bodice of tradition” with a theatrical experience playfully retelling the classic story. O’Reilly also says that “We’re taking a fictional town in a British regency novel, through an American screwball lens and then setting in the Irish National Theatre with Irish actors, so it’s amazing”.
Sounds all very Brat like and a heap of fun. Tickets begin pricing at €15, and the production will continue until 25 January, 2025.
Emma is at The Abbey Theatre from Nov 22nd – Jan 25th. 2025.
