The Irish Wind Energy Association (IWEA) are making a concerted effort to start 2016 by changing people’s attitudes to energy. Despite our natural resources, Ireland is highly dependent on energy imports, with approximately 85% of our energy coming from abroad, leaving us vulnerable to shifts in the global market, particularly as fossil fuel resources are depleted.

Highlighting Ireland’s potential to utilise renewable energy sources, the IWEA are hoping to make significant change in how Ireland produces and sources its energy. The Power to Power Ourselves campaign launches this year with both energy independence and a cleaner, greener Ireland as its aims for 2016 and beyond. The campaign is using #eightyfive15 to highlight the imbalance in energy production and import and the video behind their campaign features the words of no wiser a man than JFK, whose prophetic phrases from his 1963 visit to Ireland echo ever more pertinently today.
