Dublin city centre gets a ‘Dublin City Council Dublin Winter Lights’ makeover!

Counting down to Christmas is magical in Dublin city centre as iconic buildings, landmarks, bridges and Merrion Square Park are transformed with spectacular light installations.

Dublin City Council Dublin Winter Lights’ is a celebration for all generations. Whether you’re continuing a family tradition or looking for a new festive experience, gather your loved ones, friends and family and come experience Dublin city centre like you have never seen it before.

See dynamic, colourful and imaginative light projections by leading international and Irish artists on the GPO, the Custom House, Central Plaza, Trinity College and Bank of Ireland College Green.

Watch as stories are told, connections are made and journeys are taken through light and creativity on the facades of the GPO and Custom House. Innovative artists explore the theme of Connection in eight spectacular light projections that wrap the GPO in colour and movement. On the Custom House, eight dynamic and imaginative light projections showcase the work of leading digital artists, exploring the theme of Navigation.

Along O’Connell Street LED neon shapes will surround the trees, bringing a splash of ever-changing colour to the street. The magic continues on the statues, as imaginative light features highlight seven iconic statues – The O’Connell Monument, Jim Larkin, William Smith O’Brien, Sir John Gray, Fr Mathew Monument, Thomas Davis and Henry Grattan. This year, the Spire becomes a beacon of light visible for miles around.

Experience playfulness, interactivity and lighting projections in Merrion Square Park as stories are brought to life in Dublin’s iconic Georgian Square. This ticketed event books out quickly but some timeslots are still available. There is a €2 euro per adult booking charge. Each adult ticket admits two children. Book your tickets at www.dublinwinterlights.ie

Relaxed viewing times are available to welcome people who will benefit from a more relaxed environment, including those who identify as neurodiverse. The times are 5pm to 5.30pm on Friday and Saturday, and Sunday.

Enjoy a captivating canopy of shimmering, festive lights while visiting the much-loved live animal crib at the Mansion House. Marvel at the creativity of some of Dublin’s youngest artists as the artworks from the Children’s Art Competition take over the side of 3 Palace Street in Barnardo Square, Dame Street. When you’re there, enjoy the imaginative light projection onto the side of City Hall.

Three of Dublin city’s bridges also feature as part of the Festival. The lighting on Dublin Samuel Beckett Bridge includes an original piece of harp music performed as part of a vibrant display on the strings of the bridge.  Colourful new LED lighting along The Ha’penny Bridge connects both sides of the Liffey.  The ever popular colour rainbow arches are back on the Millennium Bridge – get ready for some great insta moments.
