Roadmap: Arts Council Awards

Posted 4 hours ago in Arts & Culture Features

Five Dublin-based artists have won the ‘Deis Recording and Publication’ award, receiving up to €10,000 euro in funding for recording projects in a scheme funded by the Arts Council.

The system, which aims to keep artforms like storytelling, traditional music and dance alive amidst challenges such as the cost-of-living crisis, saw an average payout of €6,316 last year.

Fintan Vallely, Sárán Ó Maolagáin, Catherine McHugh, Seamas Hyland and Aidan Connolly are among the 15 successful candidates to claim the prize.

The funding can cover important personal costs such as venue/studio hiring, publication, distribution and administrative costs for these artists.

A spokesperson described these projects as “vital to the preservation and transmission of traditional oral artforms, which often face unique archival challenges and can struggle to reach general audiences.”
