Over fifty performers, artists and cultural groups are set to take part in a special celebration of African cultures as Africa Day returns to the Royal Hospital Kilmainham this Sunday, May 18th.
An incredible line-up includes headline acts Caleb Kunle and the Discovery Gospel Choir, who’ll be performing on the Main Stage alongside such talents as Eje Blakk, Tony Oscar, Boye PapaGee & Colours Afrobeat, and Manden Express.
On the Rhythm Stage, Africa Day ambassador Lapree Lala will perform a dance set and workshop with her dance school Southside Moves. and Afrokids Ireland, RJ the DJ, Umurava, Wadajir Somali Association Ireland, Official PAK, Yoruba Cultural Network, African Queens, Ghana Union Ireland and more will take to the stage.
In the Spoken Word tent, Black and Irish will host a live podcast and panel talk, while other acts including Pathways International Mission and Nyanduri- Zimbabwe Community.
In addition, a lively and interactive ‘Cultural Village’ will showcase art and culture from across the African continent, while the event will also offer a children’s entertainment area with interactive and educational games as well as numerous food stalls.
Following its success last year, Africa Day Dublin will also include a Best Dressed competition which is guaranteed to bring glamour and style to the day.
Organised in partnership between the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and Dublin City Council, the event kick starts a series of nationwide Africa Day events which sees all 31 local authorities supporting a wide range of cultural, artistic, and family-friendly Africa Day events in every county in Ireland over the next few weeks.
These will include contemporary African/Irish culture, as well as family fun days, fashion, art, film, music, dance, and food events, which will take place in towns and cities across Ireland. A full list of nationwide events is available at AfricaDay.ie.
