Crowns is a self-proclaimed mess of a double album (double-cassette, no less) of the kind of snot-nosed guitar indie you usually discover under a rock in the dark recesses of an Animal Collective message board made by perma-stoned Guided By Voices obsessives in a Midwestern two-car garage. And I don’t mean that as an insult. While enjoyably and legitimately lo-fi, Ginnels are tight as Scotsmen and their use of brevity is to be commended.
