Now in its seventh cycle, the Prix Pictet is the world’s leading prize for photography and sustainability. It is unique in its attempt to use the power of photography to deepen our understanding of changes taking place in the world.
Irish photographer Richard Mosse is among those on display having scooped the top prize for his series of photos titled Heat Maps, 2016-17, which is being shown in Ireland for the first time.
Mosse shows us his large panoramas of refugee camps across Europe. They are taken with a military grade thermographic camera made to detect human heat from up to 30 kilometres away in either daylight or the dark. The panorama is eerie and provokes powerful and complicated responses to the viewer.
