The tour de force that is Akram Khan’s adaptation of the classic ballet Giselle with the English National Ballet company is not to be missed. The original, first staged in 1841, is a tale of unrequited love, heartbreak and mercy that was hugely popular at the time. Khan’s Olivier-award nominated version sees the superb dancers of the English National Ballet taking on his Kathak-influenced contemporary style. Kathak is an ancient Indian dance form that finds a natural home in the mystical, otherworldly terrain of the ballet. This show is the opening performance of this year’s Dublin Dance Festival.
