From Monday 1st December, experience O’Connell Street in Dublin’s city centre like never before. There will be dynamic beams of light dancing across the sky from The Spire, a brand new lighting installation will illuminate the Daniel O’Connell statue and the trees along the street will feature the popular and colourful light displays.

In the heart of O’Connell Street, watch as 8 talented artists and studios transform the GPO. The annual ‘GPO Lights Competition’ attracts entries from award-winning artists and emerging creative designers throughout Ireland and from around the world.

Eight stunning light projections in the heart of Dublin

Marvel as creative and dynamic animated light projections bring the ‘Liberation’ theme to life across the façade of this iconic, landmark building. Come into the city and see the artists’ designs on the GPO, O’Connell Street throughout December.

‘Flux’ by Antaless reimagines buildings and spaces as living organisms, capable of transformation over time, characterized by rapid change, instability, and a continuous flow of information.

Fairytale Amusement Park by Antanas Balvocius

‘Fairytale Amusement Park’ by Antanas Balvocius creates a space where fantasies become reality and imagination is freed as the GPO transforms into a vibrant, chaotic, and unbound spectacle that reflects the limitless power of imagination and wonder.

‘Eclipsed to Eternal’ by Dreamcatcher is a visual journey that presents liberation as a profound process of awakening, transformation, and cosmic unification.

‘Transmutations II’ by Henry Hu reimagines the GPO as a living, evolving structure, breaking away from static monumentality to reveal new forms beneath its surface as the façade pulses with energy, dissolves into shifting geometries and reforms as something dynamic and alive.

Saoirse and the Spirit of Freedom by Marina Konther tells the story of a little girl named Saoirse who finds a star crushed in the ground. She sets out to restore the star to its rightful place by carrying it to the General Post Office.

The Great Unbinding by Patrick Grandi

‘The Great Unbinding’ by Patrick Grandi begins with a burst of vivid colours that change into a dark tree, spreading over the façade which is then transformed with wild and colourful organic forms.

‘Lonnaigh do Sholas, Shine Your Light’ by Solasine tells a story that mirrors Ireland’s enduring journey toward liberation from Neolithic age myths and ancient folklore through to the struggle for independence, and into the modern era.

‘Shine’ by Vali Chincișan explores freedom as an inner process, a light emerging from darkness.  Inspired by conscious hiphop and Dadaist aesthetics it is a reclaiming of voice that blends text, glitches and typographic collages.
