Baggotonia Festival returns this Autumn, bringing five days of culture and celebration to Dublin’s historic Baggot Street and surrounding areas.
Inspired by the mid-20th century bohemians who made Baggotonia famous — amongst them, Patrick Kavanagh, Elizabeth Bowen, Flann O’Brien, Brendan Behan and artist Frances Bunch Moran – the festival will showcase the area’s unique blend of heritage and creativity.
Now in its second year, the festival is a celebration of Baggotonia past, and the words and works of writers and artists who made Baggot Street and the Grand Canal their home and workplace in the 40s, 50s, and 60s. It’s also a celebration of Baggotonia present and future, with everyone who lives, works, visits and creates in this vibrant neighbourhood invited to come and take part in the festivities.
The organisers say, “Baggotonia has always been about people coming together to share stories, spark ideas and celebrate life. This year’s festival is an invitation for everyone to learn about what makes this area so special. Whether that’s through poetry by the canal, a walk through Dublin’s literary history, or simply enjoying the buzz of Baggot Street and the beauty of the Grand Canal.”

A lively series of events features music, a Baggotonia Pop-Up Book Store, a Vintage Car Display from the Baggotonia era, as well as poetry by the Canal, Plein Air Painting, and Cultural Walking Tours.
Other programme highlights include a giant quiz, celebrations in local bars and restaurants, and Art exhibitions inspired by Baggotonia’s streets and stories.
The Baggotonia Festival Badge will be on sale for a local charity and Baggotonians are invited to get their purple on – the colour of the Festival.
The Baggotonia Festival takes place between Wednesday September 17th and Sunday September 21st 2025 in Upper Baggot Street and surrounding areas.
