You can imagine the label exec meeting all too easily.

A&R Man: …So you see, by wearing all black, writing vaguely morose lyrics, and singing in baritone these Interpol and Editors chaps have sold millions.
Label Boss: OK, so these White Lies boys you’re talking about, have they any sort of edge at all?
A&R Man: None whatsoever.
Label Boss: Sign them.

White Lies are currently adorning all those Taste Of 2009 lists, and rightfully so- Totally Dublin hasn’t seen a band with such a massive PR campaign since Kasabian broke the top 10 into tiny little pieces with their mediocrity. You know a band’s a hot tip for the big time when their management contact details are at the top of their Myspace. “Let’s go home together/And die at the same time” runs the, erm, upbeat chorus of ‘To Lose My Life’, all JJ72 bluster and Coldplay vagueness. All of which will mean an awful lot to an awful lot of people, but an ‘awful lot of wankers’ to an awful lot more. Awful.
