With the redevelopment of Dalymount Park approaching at the end of this season, The Last Days of Dalymount offers audiences the chance to experience this historic ground for one last time in a completely different way. A series of intimate gigs taking place from September 10th – 13th, these four nights look set to celebrate everything Dalymount has represented for more than a century.
Dalymount Park has been the home of Bohemian FC since it opened in 1901. Affectionately known as “Dalyer”, it became known across generations as the spiritual home of Irish football: the setting for international matches, historic European nights, FAI Cup finals, great victories, painful defeats and countless memories passed from one generation of supporters to the next.
For more than 125 years, people have made their way through the streets of Phibsborough and beneath Dalymount’s floodlights to gather, sing and share in the community it creates. The ground’s importance reaches far beyond the pitch. It is part of Dublin’s living social history, a meeting place shaped by supporters, players, musicians, artists, activists, volunteers and the surrounding community.
Dalymount also occupies a unique place in Ireland’s musical memory. Thin Lizzy brought Irish rock to the ground in 1977, while Bob Marley & The Wailers played their only Irish concert there on July 6th 1980. That now-legendary performance would become Marley’s final outdoor concert and remains one of the most evocative moments in Irish live-music history.
Status Quo also performed at Dalymount, while the Sunstroke festivals of the 1990s brought acts including Sonic Youth, Faith No More, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Ice Cube, Therapy? and The Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy to Phibsborough. These concerts cemented Dalymount as a place where football, music, youth culture and the changing identity of Dublin could meet.
That connection has continued into the present day. Recent events at Dalymount have featured KNEECAP, Greta Thunberg, Bobby Gillespie, David Holmes and many more, reflecting the values of a club that has increasingly used its platform to support music, creativity, inclusion and social change.
Bohemian FC remains proudly supporter-owned, with its identity sustained by its members, supporters and volunteers. The club’s relationship with music is not simply part of its past; it has become central to how Bohemians understand their place in the fabric of the city, outward-looking in their values and committed to the cultural life of Ireland.
Speaking ahead of the gigs this September, Daniel Lambert, Chief Commercial Officer, Bohemian Football Club said, “Millions of people have passed through the turnstiles of Dalymount. They’ve come for football, local matches, European ties, internationals and cup finals. They’ve come for music, from Marley and Lynott to punk gigs and Palestinian solidarity events. They’ve come to see famous stuntmen of the past, and to witness boxing, mock battles and even plays. But ultimately, they’ve come for human connection. With just a handful of sold-out games left, this gives the people of Dublin a wonderful opportunity to enjoy the famous old stadium one last time under the floodlights.”
