Southpaw Manor Party
Mystery Manor | Friday 21 February, €25, 9pm
The Southpaw boyos are upping the ante for their latest party, turning their backs on the Turks Head and making a voyage beyond the pale into the great unknown, into the wild you might say except that it’s actually in a big fancy gaff in the country. This time ’round they’ve rented a country manor, this change in venue also means a change in the rules – it’s BYOB and the party can rage on until the rooster crows – so basically, there are no rules! It’s a ticketed only event and there’s limited capacity so make sure you get your ticket now.
Ticket info is available over here.
JDIFF: Out of Here
Lighthouse Cinema, Saturday 20 February, 8.30pm
Donal Foreman’s debut feature Out of Here is an Irish coming of age story starring Fionn Walton (What Richard Did) who plays Ciaran, a college dropout who has just returned home after a year of travelling to discover that he’s come home too soon. Broke and living at home with his parents Ciaran tries to pick up where he left off with an ex-girlfriend and the friends he left behind but it seems their lives have moved on since he’s been gone. Feeling lost and purposeless Ciaran is forced to face questions he had pushed to the back of his mind during his time away and asks himself should he should stay or go?
St. Vincent
The Olympia | Saturday 22 February, €25
We interviewed the inimitable St. Vincent – also known as Annie Clark – ahead of the release of her third self-titled album and she told us this: “I wanted to make a party record that had a whole lot of heart and emotional gravitas too.” It’s a change from Strange Mercy but still shares “many of the same sonic characteristics” that we know and love her for. She’ll be debuting these new sounds on the Olympia stage this Saturday, get yourself down there some hipshaking or treat yourself to some blatant gaping as she whales away on her guitar.
