On the hunt for a beautiful alternative and considered Christmas present this year? The caring folk at Green Sod Ireland have devised the Save a Sod campaign, which offers some great gifting options perfect for those interested in sustainability and the protection of Ireland’s natural biodiversity and wild acres.

Launched in 2006 in response to the climate emergency, the Save A Sod campaign is an interesting way to contribute and commit to protecting Irish biodiversity, in a way that acknowledges that plants, land, animals, watersheds, and humans all form an interconnected web of life, and the survival of one depends upon the other.

Gift a ‘sod’ in someone’s name for €25 to protect and care for a piece of Irish land and the species that live on it. Recipients of a gift donation over €50 will also be given a beautiful letterpress certificate, hand-made by Dublin letterpress studio One Strong Arm, using card made from recycled coffee cups, and printed with ecological ink.

All funds go directly to protecting established Wild Acres across Ireland. Donations will be used to protect the land and species already in trust –  Connemara Co.Galway, Rosscarbery Co.Cork, Co.Carlow, Ballinrobe Co.Mayo, Kinnegoe Co. Donegal, Arderry Co. Cavan.

And it’s not just for Christmas – gifts of a sod are available throughout the year as well.
