The photos in Paul Gaffney’s latest photobook, Perigee, were taken in a forest under moonlight – its very title describes the point in the moon’s orbit at which it is nearest to Earth.

The finished product is made up of two books: one black, which offers spooky, immersive panoramic shots of mossy branches, tall trees; one white, its trees standing shocked in the sudden flash of a polaroid.

Visually stunning and evocative, Perigee is an exploration of place, both physical and psychological.
