Roadmap: Dublin Bikes

Posted 3 hours ago in More

Dublin City Council is aiming to replace the DublinBikes scheme with a new system from 2027 onwards.

Under the current scheme, which is enrolled on behalf of the council by French company JCDecaux, subscribers pay an annual €35 fee for 30 minutes of free riding around Dublin across their fleet of around 1600 bikes.

The proposed new system will see the introduction of around 4,000 bikes under a uniform scheme. The details of its enrolment are unclear, but Dublin City councillor Feljin Jose said that any change “has to result in an affordable and scalable system”.

Dublin bikes has been a remarkably successful scheme since its introduction in 2009 and has made the inner city more accessible amidst growing concerns over congestion.
