The Full Monty’s

Posted 4 hours ago in Food & Drink Features

Having clocked up almost three decades serving delicious Nepalese food in the heart of the city, Monty’s is now giving its impressive wine credentials a chance to breathe on their own with a brand-new wine bar at its home on Eustace Street.

They’ve transformed the lower floor of the Dublin 2 institution into an intimate space for after-work glasses, pre-dinner pours, and a fascinating interactive blind-tasting challenge for those who reckon they can separate their Merlot from their Malbec.

Over the years owner Shiva Gautam has built one of Ireland’s most acclaimed wine lists, earning recognition from Wine Spectator and Star Wine List along the way.

She tells us that the new bar is a chance to dig a little deeper into the cellar at Monty’s, coupled with a chance to savour a nice selection of bottles from her own personal collection.

Wine lovers will undoubtedly be spoilt for choice, but for novices or those unsure of what to order, Shiva is guaranteed to have a stellar recommendation or a special bottle to hand.

Vino choices sorted, simply pair your pick with cheese, olives or almonds, or tackle the full Monty’s menu with some gorgeous plates of Nepas featuring delicious Nepali tapas including Tareko Jhinga Macha (Crispy Prawns), Sag Chat (Crispy Spinach with Tamarind Chutney and Yoghurt Dressing) and their ever-popular Chuso Ko Lollypop (Barbecue Chicken Lollipops).

Monty’s also has a number of events planned throughout the autumn, including a Spanish wine pairing dinner as part of Ireland’s Eat Spain Drink Spain campaign and a special event to celebrate Ireland’s EU Presidency, featuring special tasting flights and wines from across Europe.

Walk-ins welcome, while booking is advised for groups of five or more. Open Mon to Wed 5pm – 10pm; Thurs to Sun 12pm – 2pm and 5pm – 10pm.
