As January drags its heels towards spring, our thoughts turn to a convivial hostelry in Stoneybatter, and their annual celebration in honour of legendary Scotsman Rabbie Burns.

Their annual Burns Night shindig is one of the longest-running traditions at L. Mulligans’ and, every January 25th, they go all in.

This year marks the 264th birthday of the great Scottish bard, and in honour of the occasion, the evening centres around a four-course dinner with paired drinks, designed to warm the bones and keep the chat flowing.

Revellers can expect a properly rousing evening powered by cock-a-leekie soup, house-made haggis, cranachan, generous drams and the unmistakable skirl of the bagpipes echoing through the bar.

The carefully designed set menu reads like a greatest hits of Scottish comfort: cock-a-leekie to start, proper haggis, an abundance of lorne sausage and all the traditional trimmings you’d hope for.

The perfect excuse for haggis, tartan and a splash (or three) of whisky, this is not a night for subtlety and shy retirement. Dig out your sporran, dust off the tartan  and lean into a full-throttle celebration of Scotland’s national bard, complete with poetry, formal toasts ‘To A Mouse’ and plenty of high spirits.

Convivial, theatrical and delightfully old-school — a midwinter knees-up that feels tailor-made for banishing the January blues.

Booking essential – just be sure to flag any dietary requirements in advance… and maybe pace yourself on the spirits and the Irn Bru. Or not.
