Bready Delights: Allta Launches New Pop-Up Bakery

Posted March 22, 2021 in Food & Drink Features

Over the past year Allta culinary creatives, Niall Davidson, Hugh Higgins and Kevin Burke have pivoted from a restaurant and wine bar to the launch of a popular range of high quality food kits beloved of Dublin diners.

Early birds who get their orders in fast enough on Mondays get to savour their Alltabox spoils the following weekend, while the rest of us gaze longingly at the awe-inspiring results on our social media feeds.

Spurred on by this success, the trio recently launched a pop-up bakery at Allta at the beginning of March, featuring a delicious range of hand made artisan breads and baked goods, as well as a gorgeous selection of treats from Plur Bakery that has us salivating.

Saturday morning in Dublin 2 now sees the likes of Matcha and Pistachio Croissants nestling amiably alongside vegan Almond Croissants and Hazlenut Pain au Chocolats, with an innovative selection of Specialty Doughnuts also available. We profess ourselves mesmerised by the fascinating flavour range on offer, which includes fillings such as Strawberry cheesecake, Creme Brulee, Raspberry and Pistachio and Rhubarb and Sheep’s Custard.

On the savoury side, the Allta bread selection includes Shallot and Thyme Loaf, Sourdough Bagettes, Pumpkin Seed Miso and Purple wheat sourdough, with Cloud Picker coffee and a great selection of wines also available.

Word of the exciting new bakes on offer led to good-humoured, socially distanced queues quickly stretching around the corner, with favourable reports from the cognoscenti indicating that the goodies on offer were well worth waiting for.

As the Allta crew occupy themselves with working on ways of making the weekly queue move faster, plans are afoot to launch a new menu shortly. In the meantime the AlltaBox food and wine range continues to go from strength to strength. A variety of innovative weekly menus include House Charcuterie, White Sprouting Broccoli Soppressini, Dukkah Sourdough and Shiitake miso butter. There’s also room for McNally farm leaves, Spiced Velvet Cloud yoghurt dressing, Killary fjord mussel angel hair, Chocolate cake with pear and tonka bean namelaka, blood orange jellies and more.

You need to be quick though. Unsurprisingly, the offering has proven so popular over the past year that orders frequently sell out in less than an hour. Don’t say we didn’t warn you!

Allta Bakery is open from 10am on Saturdays until all items are sold out.
