A special wine tasting event this month sees the city’s wine lovers invited to sample the produce of the volcanic vineyards of the Canary Islands without leaving the capital.

Taking place at The Corkscrew Wine Merchants on Chatham Street, the evening promises an immersive tasting experience that brings the island’s dramatic landscapes and pioneering winemakers to life, as Wine Expert Sinéad Smyth showcases a handpicked selection of wines grown in the island’s extraordinary black volcanic soils.

Having spent many years exploring the island’s unique viticulture, Sinead will be guiding guests through the region’s history and wine-making techniques, while imparting something of the resilient spirit of the growers who coax vines from the ash-covered ground.

As part of this special tasting and virtual tour, Dubliners can explore wines made from indigenous varieties such as Malvasía Volcánica and Listán Negro.

Speaking ahead of the event Sinéad says, “This isn’t just a tasting, it’s a postcard from Lanzarote. A celebration of what makes these wines so expressive, so elemental, and so unforgettable.”

The evening also includes a virtual tour, offering a behind-the-scenes glimpse of the vineyards and cellars of Lanzarote’s leading producers.

As Sinead says, “We don’t have much Lanzarote wine in Ireland, so it’s a nice way for people to taste and learn a little bit about the island.”

So, whether you’re a seasoned oenophile or simply curious about volcanic wines, this tasting is sure to open a window to one of Spain’s most surprising and soulful wine regions.

The Lanzarote Wine Tasting & Virtual Tour hosted by Sinead Smyth in collaboration with Wine Shop Lanzarote, takes place on Wednesday, 15th May 2025, from 7.00 pm – 9.00 pm, at The Corkscrew, 4 Chatham Street, Dublin 2. Tickets: €50, plus booking fee available via Eventbrite. Early booking is advised!
