In some respects, it beggars belief that Kelela Mizanekristos is not playing a larger venue or that this show isn’t sold out at the time of going to press. But them’s the ups and downs of a competitive gig and acclaim space. It’s also an “an act of self-care” which saw this Queer artist retreat from the glare for a period of introspection. Ten years since the release of her debut mixtape Cut 4 Me and six since her astounding debut LP Take Me Apart. Now she returns with Raven, an album of material which further cements her status as a voyager into thrilling terrains of electronic, drum’n’bass and garage. It’s never too late to jump on board.
