Mayhem and Madness on The Big Screen – Horrorton Returns To The IFI This Weekend!

Posted 5 hours ago in Festival Features

Horror fans rejoice! IFI‘s spectacular gorefest returns for another year of blood-soaked mayhem, madness and monster munching.

From brilliant new releases to unmissable classics, this year’s edition looks like one for the ages as it places the spotlight firmly on folk horror,  as they run through a richly rewarding canon, with such cinematic classics as The Witchfinder General, The Blood On Satan’s Claw, Incubus and The Wicker Man all in the frame.

Be warned though – the passage of time has done little to dim the power of these films to shock. As we learn in the Wicker Man, ‘Shocks are so much better absorbed with the knees bent’, so hold on to your seats! We recommend a stiff brandy afterwards.

Also in the mix is a horror Prom Night spectacular on Saturday with screenings, performance and party as award-winning queer DIY cabaret collective EGG Cabaret partner on a full-venue takeover.

Rounding off proceedings is a Bank Holiday Monday cine-concert with musician Stephen Horne accompanying silent classic The Cat and the Canary, with some surprise slots also in the mix throughout the weekend.
